The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance is Wisconsin's only statewide independent watchdog.
WISTAX is a nonpartisan, nonprofit public policy research organization working on behalf of Wisconsin taxpayers and citizens. Since its founding in 1932, the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance has been the source Wisconsin taxpayers, business leaders and the media look to for the truth about state and local government in Wisconsin.
WISTAX receives no government funding. It is privately supported by more than 1,000 businesses, foundations, organizations and individuals throughout Wisconsin.

Wisconsin taxpayers and voters want and deserve the simple truth about state and local government - how it works, taxes and spends. But, the information about government provided by politicians and special interest groups is often incomplete or slanted, designed to promote a particular point of view. In many cases, voters are left frustrated, wondering what version of "the truth" to believe.
Through painstaking research, WISTAX uncovers the truth and provides citizens the honest facts about government, taxes and spending. In this era of career politicians, political "spin doctors" and media "filtering", WISTAX is Wisconsin's only source of independent analysis on state and local government finance.

their government accountable.
As a taxpayer, you have a right to expect your elected and appointed officials to spend your tax dollars wisely. You have a right to be assured that taxing and spending programs actually achieve what they are intended to. In short, you have a right to expect responsive, responsible government.

WISTAX membership is open to the public, with the minimum annual contribution being $75. The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance has a suggested dues schedule for businesses based on number of Wisconsin-based employees, type of business and the contributions made by comparably-sized companies.
